Slowthai and Soak in the June issue of Q magazine
March saw me spending time in Manchester on a couple of shoots for the latest issue of Q Magazine. First up was new grime sensation, Slowthai. His album has just been released to much acclaim and I’m not going to lie, I’m jealous of the people who shots his album artwork. Amazing work, I’ve heard some of the production stories and hats off to the production crew for keeping it all on track.
And it turns out my long suffering friend and super assistant Rob has known Slowthai for quite a while. Bit of a boo boo that I didn’t think of taking him along!? Anyway, sorry Rob, lets put that in the long list of nearly shoots with all your favourite artists! I was asked to head out to Manchester to hang out with Ty at what was at the time his largest gig to date. Not anymore though, he’s sold out Brixton in a matter of minutes so it’s safe to say he’s in the ascendancy! If you love grime then make sure you go see him if you can get a ticket. It was the sweatiest gig I’ve been to for ages, he loves to perform in his pants so he doesn’t have to worry about foggy lenses. He’s just brilliant live, go see him at a smaller venue soon while you still can.
Soak, for all that know her, is such easy company. We had such a good time hanging out around her neck of the woods. Chatting about her new album, Grim Town, and getting to know what inspires her to create such heart felt music. I don’t think i’ve met such an easy going artist, she was a dream to hang with. Go check her out when you need an injection of alt-pop in your life. If you’re in North America this summer then try and check out her shows.
