Matthew Macfadyen - Gentleman's Journal
It’s not often I get the chance to shoot a movie and TV star that’s in one of my favourite shows. So last summer was such a buzz to spend some time with the wonderful Matthew Macfadyen, one of the stars of HBO smash hit, Succession. Matthew has a brilliant back catalogue of acting roles but rose to prominence in the role of Mr Darcy in the 2005 version of Pride & Prejudice. With season two of Succession about to appear on our screens I for one can’t wait to see what happens to probably the most dysfunctional family on TV. If you haven’t checked it out yet then it’s worth a good old binge.
For the shoot itself it was shot in Mayfair, London at the Intercontinental on Park Lane. We had the run of their Capital Suite which suited the style of the shoot down to a tee. I wanted the shoot to be a mix of powerful masculine silhouettes and playing with Matthew’s offbeat character from the show. He was so receptive and collaborative with ideas. I was only supposed to have 30 mins but because we were all enjoying the shoot we got over an hour in the end. Hopefully I’ll get to work more with Matthew in the future but one things for certain i’m definitely looking forward seeing him in season two!
Another thing I remember from that day is that I had to drive from this shoot to Newquay for Boardmasters which is where I shot my overall runner up photo at the EPA’s so it wasn’t a bad week at all.
